In honor of Valentine’s Day and celebrating love, we asked our CEO, Amanda LaGrange, to share some of the reuse items she’s been LOVING lately. (And no, these aren’t affiliate links!) Here are the five items at the top of her list.
I love Sodastream because it’s an economical and environmentally-friendly way to enjoy my favorite sparkling water. Making it at home vs buying bottles or cans of sparkling water at the store produces much less plastic and aluminum waste, let alone the carbon footprint of the logistics of shipping water.
Each SodaStream machine comes with a carbonating bottle that can be reused for three years, eliminating countless single-use plastic bottles or cans. And if you love sparkling water as much as I do, you know just how quickly they can add up! They also offer a gas exchange service so you can exchange your empty CO2 cylinder for a full one, further reducing waste.
As Sodastream says on their website, “Planet Earth needs less waste and more sparkle.” I couldn’t agree more.
While many note-taking needs can be taken care of using computers and smartphones, there are times you just need a good ol’ pen and paper. That’s why I love Rocketbook.
Rocketbook’s reusable notebooks and planners allow you to handwrite like you would in a paper notebook, then connect to the cloud to save your writing. Then you simply wipe the pages clean with water and a cloth and start again!
Since the average office uses around 10,000 sheets of paper each year, using reusable notebooks can save a LOT of waste! Plus, the notebooks themselves are made of recyclable materials.
Pyrex Glass Leftover Containers
While plastic storage containers are certainly preferable to single-use containers, glass is even better.
Glass is safer for you to use — no more worrying about chemicals leaching into your food when you microwave it. It’s also better for the environment. Glass storage containers are highly durable — if you take good care of them, they can last indefinitely. And if you do need to dispose of them, they’re 100% recyclable.
Join me in ditching the plastic and start bringing your lunch to work in reusable glass containers.
Mesh Produce Bags
Goodbye plastic produce bags! Reusable mesh produce bags cut down on SO much plastic waste — plus, they can help your produce last longer, saving on food waste.
Unlike single-use bags, mesh produce bags can be used for hundreds of trips to the grocery store. And once you get your groceries home, mesh bags are ideal for produce storage. The fabric makes it easy to see what’s inside and provides excellent air circulation, keeping produce fresher longer.
You can also save counter or cupboard space in your pantry by hanging bags of pantry-friendly produce — like onions and potatoes — by the bag’s drawstring.
Refurbished Electronics From Tech Discounts
Did you know that the average American buys a new smartphone every 18 months? This means 100-120 million phones are thrown out each year! And that’s only one kind of electronic device. Think of all of the devices we use every day — phones, computers, tablets, TVs…the list goes on. Keeping up with technology, while necessary in today’s world, leads to a LOT of e-waste.
That’s where Tech Discounts steps in. At Tech Discounts, you can get refurbished technology at an affordable price — keeping your tech up-to-date and e-waste out of the landfill. Win-win! Plus, when you buy from Tech Discounts, you help provide job training and practical experience for adults facing barriers to employment. Win-win-win!
